The Old Synagogue

With the oldest parts of the building dating from the 11th century, the Old Synagogue is Central Europe's oldest synagogue to survive including its roof. An extraordinary museum is set to be completed by 2009: series of medieval artefacts have been discovered in Erfurt, which will be housed in the future Museum in the Old Synagogue from 2009. Together with the documentation of the history of the construction of the Synagogue itself, they are intended, in their totality, to throw light on the history of the Erfurt community, which was of outstanding significance in Europe in the Middle Ages.
